Earth Day

Earth Day April 22, 2017

Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 each year and marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement of 1970. War raged in Vietnam & students overwhelmingly opposed it. Industry belched out smoke & sludge with fear of legal consequences or bad press. Air pollution was commonly accepted as the smell of prosperity. Awareness & concern for living organisms, the environment & links between pollution & public health began to rise. In April of 1970 20 million Americans toook to the streets, parks & auditoriums to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment in massive coast to coast rallies. Earth Day 1970 achieved a rare political alignment. By the end of that year the first Earth Day had led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency & passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water & Endangered Species Acts. In Menallen Township our Supervisors & Staff try hard to maintain a clean environment for our community & surrounding areas. Please do your part in helping to keep Menallen Township Clean.
